The pre-Socratic philosopher Anaximander posited that the source from which things arise is also where they must return upon their destruction, paying retribution to one another for their injustice according to the ordinance of time. This photography project is a visual elegy to human hubris and the inevitable order of time, captured within the ruins of the abandoned Lenin Industrial Complex in Kazakhstan. A solitary empty chair and forgotten personal effects become monuments to broken ambitions. By juxtaposing these surviving fragments of daily labor with the decaying Soviet geometry, the project explores the profound melancholy of things meant to last forever, which by the decree of fate are turning to dust. The destruction of the complex is not mere decay; it is nature restoring cosmic balance, ultimately burying the concrete illusion of an eternal communist order.
